WAGS Gang Show

History

The first show was performed in 1972 and since then it has been held annually in theatres around Warwickshire. Since 1989 the show has had the Royal Spa Centre, Leamington Spa as its home.

150 Gang Members rehearse from October each year to prepare the show. Many others assist behind the scenes.

Some notable dates in WAGS’s history.

1972 First show at the Pavilion in Leamington Spa

1982 WAGS performed in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, US. There was an hour long televised documentary on the trip.

1984 Royal Gala performance in front of HRH Princess Anne at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford upon Avon.

1987 WAGS performed under canvas in a Circus Big Top.

1988 WAGS on tour around the County

1995 (7th October) performed at the Royal Albert Hall in the “Spotlight”

1996 WAGS performed “The Ralph Reader Story”

2000 WAGS performed as part of the Millennium Celebrations

2004 WAGS performed at the National Scout Conference

2007 WAGS performed at the World Scout Jamboree Heads of Contingent meeting

2007 WAGS performed at the Festival of Scouting at the O2 Arena, London

2011 WAGS Dance Team performed at the Playhouse Theatre, London in aid of Over the Wall

2012 WAGS performed at GS80 at the Birmingham Hippodrome celebrating 80 years of Gang Show.

2014. WAGS one night special at Royal Shakespeare Theatre in aid of Myton Hospice

2017. Joined with Coventry, KEGS and Nuneaton Gang Shows for 4Gangshows 4 Action for Children at the Warwick Arts Centre, Butterworth Hall

2022 Members of WAGS cast performed in GS90 at the Eventim Apollo, London celebrating 90 years of the Gang Show.
